Come as you are!

The Church of the Straits is a federated church. We are a single congregation, but  both United Methodist and ECO Presbyterian. The Church of the Straits is the only mainline Protestant church in Mackinaw City.

While we are one, single congregation, we support and are supported by both The United Methodist Church and the ECO Presbyterian Church.

We are a body of people committed to Christian unity under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our congregation is made up of people from all different denominations. And because Mackinaw City is a diverse town, we're made up of people from all different backgrounds as well.

We seek to touch the lives of people within a wide area, from St. Ignace to the north, to Cheboygan to the south, and to regions of Emmet County to the southeast.

It could be said that we design our ministries to meet the needs of two distinct congregations: those who live in the area year-round, and those who are here in the summer, whether all summer long or just visiting for a few days.

During the summer months, our worship attendance quadruples, and we fill the sanctuary twice to its capacity. On Labor Day Sunday we're practically bursting at the seams!

Christian Mission is a high priority for us. From meeting the needs of our local community to supporting the Church and missionaries at the national and international levels, we are committed to service and mission in Jesus' name. In 1967 The Church of the Straits founded the ecumenical Straits Area Resort Ministry, locally known as S.A.R.M. Today, this vital ministry offers a youth program. In addition, our building is used throughout the year for community events. In fact, in 1984 we temporarily became the local school building during an emergency in the community.
